DP World Callao, concessionaire of the South Pier of the Port of Callao, has acquired a fleet of 20 electric internal transfer vehicles (ITVs), making it the first port in the world to have a fleet of vehicles with this new technology. Additionally, 12 RTG cranes and 3 electric QC cranes were acquired as part of the investment in the Muelle Bicentenario expansion megaproject and its commitment to the environment.
This new electrical equipment will arrive in Callao in mid 2023 and will be part of the expansion project, which represents an investment of US$350 million and will allow to meet a greater demand of containers for the benefit of the Peruvian economy.
This purchase will help to significantly reduce the company's emissions by 2030. Thus, from the beginning of 2022, the only equipment to be purchased for DP World will be electric. In addition, the company aims to electrify all of its diesel RTGs (25) and all of its diesel trucks (41) to further reduce its carbon footprint.
"We are very proud to confirm that DP World Callao Port Terminal is going all-electric. This purchase means a reduction of 1.5 million liters of diesel each year. In addition, we will start converting diesel equipment to electric equipment to achieve carbon neutrality," said Nicolas Gauthier, CEO of DP World in Peru.
This initiative is part of DP World's worldwide commitment to the environment. Its sustainability strategy, called Our World, Our Future, is developed in accordance with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, in order to have a positive economic and social impact on society.
