In 2005, BloombergNEF's most optimistic predictions when analyzing the solar energy sector were that in the future "sunlight would account for 1% of the world's electricity". A decade later, a new prediction published in late 2020 estimates that by 2050 "56% of the world's electricity would come from wind and solar sources" (BloombergNEF), pleasantly surprising several government and private agencies.
