Interbank y Enel Generación Perú announced an agreement to supply 100% renewable energy to the bank's operations until 2025. This alliance is part of the commitment of both companies for the transition to a cleaner energy matrix in the country. In this way, millions of banking users in Peru will also be able to contribute to the care of our planet.
The announcement was made during an event in which Enel Generación Perú delivered an SGS Green Certificate to Interbank for its renewable energy consumption between October and December 2023. It should be noted that the contracted power amounts to 2,200 KW, equivalent to approximately 3 GWh of energy per year. This energy will be generated by the hydroelectric power plants of Huinco, Callahuanca, Moyopampa, Huampaní, Yanango and Chimay, owned by Enel.
Karen Soto, Head of Commercialization & Trading of Enel Generación Perú, highlighted the company's strategic vision to promote the adoption of sustainable energy in banking and the different productive sectors of the country. “We begin 2024 with projects and initiatives that allow us to consolidate our leadership as the main ally of Peruvian industries. We are proud that Interbank, a leading bank in the country, has become our strategic partner to promote the energy transition. We will continue adding allies and working for the development of our country”.
Alfonso Díaz, Interbank's Vice President of Operations and Technology, said: “This alliance is consistent with our sustainability strategy focused on having an efficient and environmentally friendly operation. In this sense, we have been implementing different initiatives aimed at managing our carbon footprint with the support of the Ministry of the Environment. Thanks to Enel for being an ally in these efforts and to SGS del Perú, which has endorsed the green certification we received today”.
