Environmental protection is not a fashion, but a necessity. Did you know that in Peru 8 million tons of garbage are generated each year, but only 15% is recycled?
This Friday, May 17, we celebrate World Recycling Day, with the aim of raising awareness about the reuse of objects and waste treatment.
For this reason, the Economiaverde.pe initiative, which brings together Peruvian SMEs with a positive social and environmental impact, presents us with a list of 10 ingenious ventures that have turned recycling into a profitable and responsible business. Take note and encourage you to recycle:
Ecological Bags of Peru. For the past 7 years, this enterprise has been transforming plastic bottles into fibers and fabrics, which are used to make advertising bags. The company also makes ecological flowerpots, notebooks, backpacks and even jackets by recycling plastic.
2. Cycle. This recycling company gives a second life to construction and demolition waste materials, transforming them into bricks, blocks, pavers, and aggregates. It also provides integrated waste management consulting services to various companies.
3. I was a Banner. Also called FUB, it is a socio-environmental enterprise that transforms political and advertising banners into uniquely designed accessories. In addition, they have the support of a group of women from the Santa Monica de Chorrillos prison for the manufacture of the products. The company trains and helps these women in their social reintegration process.
Go Green Peru. This organization seeks to raise awareness in society through campaigns in favor of environmental care. It is currently leading the initiatives "Siembra un árbol, siembra un futuro" (sale of tree lots for the planting of 25 km of bicycle lanes), "Ecowash" (waterless vehicle cleaning) and "Basura 0" (street cleaning and recycling).
5. Las Traperas. According to company statistics, women have between 30% to 70% of unused or slightly used clothing in their closets. Therefore, the Las Traperas project facilitates the re-circulation and sale of second-hand garments in perfect condition, indirectly contributing to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and climate change.
6. Women of my neighborhood. This initiative empowers women in vulnerable situations and promotes responsible consumption through the sale of used toys and accessories in good condition. In addition, the initiative supports the Compañeros de Vida program (care for the elderly) with a percentage of its monthly sales.
7. Natura Ingenium. This Cusquenian company provides services that promote the harmony of nature and society through solid waste management, environmental sanitation, sustainable construction, and technical and legal advice for social and environmental projects.
8. Recide. Offers a free collection service of used clothing and appliances to families and businesses. These goods are put to good use to provide a dignified and legal shopping experience for low-income families. In addition, this initiative reduces the amount of waste, the demand for stolen products, and the extraction of non-renewable resources.
9. Sinba. Organic waste that ends up in the garbage can become a pollution problem for the city. Therefore, this venture collects organic waste in good condition, mainly from restaurants, and processes it to produce feed for farm pigs. In this way it encourages cyclical consumption.
10. Vidria. Few people know that glass is a 100% recyclable material, yet it is common to see glasses, bottles and other glass objects in the trash bags of homes and businesses. Therefore, Vidria focuses on transforming discarded glass into art, mainly glasses and tableware with customized and innovative designs.
