Climate Investment in Latin America and the Caribbean: Annual Report Series

The report series focuses on private sector investment and the public policy instruments that can incentivize it, as private finance will have to increase significantly to achieve the investment needed to reach net-zero emissions.

The analysis focuses on Argentina, Brazil and Peru, It is complemented with contextual results from Latin America and the Caribbean, highlighting success stories on the road to emissions neutrality.

The first edition to be published soon and focuses on the policy landscape necessary to enable the transition to a net-zero emissions state.

Focusing on Argentina, Brazil and Peru, the report analyzes the policy environment that incentivizes (or discourages) low-carbon investments in the following six sectors: energy, transport, buildings, industry, waste and agriculture, forestry and other land use (AFOLU). In addition, the report provides a general introduction to the global processes needed to meet the goals of the Paris Agreement, as well as a summary of the current status of the decarbonization process in Latin America and the Caribbean. 

The report also discusses the main characteristics of the climate finance architecture in the region, including the sources of climate finance, their magnitude and the final use of the funds. The governance and climate finance planning, and the existing channels of access in these three countries.  

Future editions of this series of reports, which will be published in 2022 y 2023, will focus on the investment opportunities that have the potential to generate profound transformations towards emission neutrality in specific sectors.
