This investment is part of the actions of DP World Callao to meet the goal of being carbon neutral by 2030.
In line with its decarbonization strategy, DP World, the concessionaire for the Callao Port South PierThe company inaugurated an electric charging station in its facilities that operates with renewable energy, becoming the first port terminal in Latin America to have this type of infrastructure.
This initiative, which was carried out in partnership with Enel X Waywill enable 20 100% electric internal transport trucks, the largest fleet of vehicles recently acquired by DP World, to be recharged with clean energy.
"This project marks an important milestone in our operations and in the initiatives for the care of the environment in our sector, as it will contribute to stop emitting significantly 2,145 tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2eq) per year; and will promote the massification of the benefits of electric mobility for the energy transition of the Peruvian market," said Sany Rodriguez, senior director of Safety, Environment and Sustainability of DP World, who also calls on companies in the logistics and port sector to adopt initiatives to reduce emissions.
Globally, DP World is working to achieve carbon neutrality in its operations. In line with this commitment, DP World Callao has developed a strategy of decarbonization with the ambitious goal of becoming carbon neutral by 2030. This strategy contemplates a significant investment of approximately US$$72 million and concrete actions such as the construction of this electric charging station. In addition, it is highlighted that, in this station, each charger has a solar panel cover on the roofs that provides energy to illuminate the station.
DP World takes the lead in the sector, promoting the implementation of innovative solutions that can be replicated in other industries, aware that Peru is ranked 38th in the world ranking of countries with the highest pollution, according to the World Air Quality Report 2022.
As part of the project, Enel X Way has installed a charging management platform that monitors energy consumption and CO2 emissions savings. "The station has 10 dual fast charge chargers of 200 KW each, consolidating the largest charging station in Latin America with an electrical infrastructure of 2MW of installed power. In this space, it will be possible to power DP World's 20 electric 100% trucks simultaneously," adds Alex Ascon, General Manager of Enel X Way.
