Sustainability requires empowered teams. How to strengthen key skills to accelerate impact and ensure business resilience?

Pia Zevallos - Libélula General Manager

In an increasingly challenging business environment, sustainability is no longer a value-add but a strategic imperative. However, many companies still underestimate the fundamental role that the skills and capabilities of their teams play in building sustainable and resilient businesses.

Strengthening core competencies - such as systemic environmental, social and governance (ESG) risk management, sustainable innovation or operational efficiency - not only ensures regulatory compliance, but also opens up new business opportunities and enhances corporate reputation. A report by the World Economic Forum (2024) highlights ESG risks as one of the greatest threats to business continuity. This reinforces the need for leaders who understand the magnitude of these risks and act with strategic vision. Having highly trained teams with the skills to translate commitments into concrete actions and generate tangible results that drive profitability, sustainability and business resilience is a key part of business strategy.

What do companies need to prepare for this challenge and strengthen the capabilities of their teams?

  1. Continuous and strategic training: Implement professional development programs that anticipate and respond to a constantly changing environment. These should include everything from regulatory frameworks to decarbonization strategies and sustainable finance, thus strengthening the ability of organizations to make informed decisions.
  2. Practical and customized tools: Each sector faces particular challenges, so it is key to have tools adapted to its reality. The availability of industry-relevant indicators, specific methodologies and applicable case studies allows the translation of commitments into concrete actions, facilitating effective and measurable implementation.
  3. Connection and learning spacesCollaborative networks, entrepreneurial inter-learning communities, help to share experiences, accelerate learning and enhance collective impact.

Sustainability is transversal and requires the commitment of all areas of the business. Prepared teams are the basis for anticipating risks, innovating and leading the transformation that the market and society demand. Is your company ready to measure and enhance the impact of its talents on sustainability?
