Making Latin American companies' climate action more visible

About the Report
Thanks to the Net Zero Fund Scotiabank, obtained by Libélula, the nexos+1 climate action platform prepared the Latin American Corporate Climate Action Report.
This effort provides a better understanding of the maturity, challenges and opportunities of corporate climate action and commitments in nine countries in the region.
The information collected is presented in two publications:

Corporate climate maturity results for Latin America
Corporate climate action is the set of articulated actions that a company deploys as part of its business strategy to reduce its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, increase resilience and adaptive capacity to climate-induced impacts.
The Report collects information from 109 companies in 9 Latin American countries using a Libélula tool that assesses climate maturity. This tool measured climate maturity according to 6 dimensions based on the 4 Race to Zero membership criteria (Pledge, Plan, Proceed and Publish) to which the dimensions Purpose and Governance were added:
Purpose and strategy:
The company's business strategy incorporates its commitment to managing its triple impact on the planet.
Commitment:
Explicit commitment to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, aligned with science.
Planning:
Plan with goals, roles, processes and tools to achieve carbon neutrality in the short, medium and long term.
Proceed:
Implementation consistent with the delivery of results defined in the carbon neutrality strategy.
Publish:
Public reporting of corporate climate action progress through official platforms.
Governance:
The conditions of the institution are in place to be able to carry out corporate climate action.
We present the main results for the region and for each of the countries that were evaluated. (click on the flags to access the disaggregated results for each country). The results are representative of the sample evaluated, it is not a statistical sample.

Latin America
Latin American companies are at an early to intermediate stage of climate maturity.
It is noted that in general, they are contributing to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and making progress in measuring their carbon footprint and that they have the governance structure in place to implement climate action.
Most of them have not identified the risks and opportunities posed by climate change. There is room for improvement in terms of establishing commitments, implementing a climate action plan and reporting their actions and progress.
