Pacasmayo's eco-efficient portfolio generated an approximate savings of more than 7 million tons of CO2

Pacasmayo, a construction solutions company in the north of the country, strengthening its commitment to contribute to the development of a more sustainable sector, made visible through a virtual space with its leaders, its more than 25 years of development to consolidate a portfolio with eco-efficient products that are aligned with its corporate DNA.

Sustainability is one of the main pillars of the business that is deployed transversally to all actions carried out by the company. Thus, Pacasmayo's solutions are not only efficient, i.e. designed with the customer at the center, providing the best quality standards, but today more than ever the company highlights its efforts to be Eco-Efficient, aspiring to build a more environmentally friendly future.

"Eco-efficiency is at the heart of our corporate mindset, a term that has marked our trajectory over the years. We know there is still a long way to go; however, we are very proud of the results we have achieved so far. Our eco-efficient portfolio has had a positive impact on the environment, generating savings of approximately 7 million tons of CO2 in the last 25 years.”commented Humberto Nadal, CEO of Pacasmayo.

Promoting the environmental sustainability of the sector

Pacasmayo's portfolio is made up of blended cements, which have a lower impact on the environment because they use less clinker in their production. Clinker is the main component of cement, the production of which generates significant amounts of CO2, and its presence is reduced in the case of blended cements, which are replaced by other elements such as active additions (pozzolana, slag, among others), which reduce the environmental impact and also provide other performance benefits in the product.

Currently, more than 85% of the cement company's cement sales correspond to blended cements, which have an average of 22% less clinker than traditional Portland cements, achieving significant savings in CO2 emissions during production.

"The clinker/cement factor of our most representative blended cements, such as Extraforte and Fortimax, is approximately 68%, and the goal proposed by FICEM's Peru Cement Roadmap is for blended cements to have a clinker/cement factor of 67% by 2030. It is that is, we are 1% away from achieving this goal.”, added the CEO.

Furthermore, in line with its purpose, in 2022 Pacasmayo decided to make a change in its packaging, responding to the basic needs identified by both its consumers and the management of the sector itself.

This is how the EcoSaco was born, a packaging that tangibilizes the environment of Pacasmayo's business model, which focuses on three key pillars: Innovation, Sustainability and Digital Transformation. This packaging, thanks to its composition and correct use, can be introduced directly into the concrete mixer spinning top style, becoming part of the concrete mix without generating waste. Among its benefits, the 70% in the shell of a construction site can be built in an environmentally friendly manner, preventing approximately 4.5 million bags of cement from ending up as waste after use.

Incorporation of two new managers

In addition, as part of the sustainable vision of the business, Pacasmayo announced the incorporation of two new key managers: Climate Change and Sustainability, which will enable the company to meet the objectives of the Peru Cement Roadmap for 2030, to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.

The Central Climate Change Management is led by Hugo Villanueva, who has the objective of aligning the company's goals and proposing innovative projects that allow the company to reduce its emissions. The Sustainability area is managed by Claudia Bustamante, who is in charge of strengthening and promoting a sustainable corporate culture while promoting the development of best sustainable practices across the business. It is worth mentioning that Bustamante is also the company's Investor Relations Manager.
