Enel promotes environmental care through the reuse of more than 100 tons of materials

  • Wood from the Solar Clemesí and Wayra Extension projects was delivered for the manufacture of furniture, toys, posters, among others.
  • Through the Recicla Power program in Piura, 8 tons of recyclable material were collected monthly.

In order to promote environmental care and circular initiatives, Enel has been carrying out activities for the benefit of the populations of Moquegua, Ica and Piura, through the delivery of more than 100 tons of disused material and solid waste to be reused in the manufacture of other inputs, generating income for families.

In Moquegua (AAHH Pampa Clemesí) and Ica (Marcona and Nasca), an eco-carpentry workshop is being held where communities learn to make furniture, thanks to the delivery of more than 20 tons of unused wood from the Solar Clemesí and Wayra Extension projects. The furniture made by the villagers makes up the 90% of the furniture of both Enel power plants.

Likewise, 1 ton of wood was delivered to the Productive Prisons Program in Moquegua for the manufacture of toys and more than 100 tons of wood to the Pampa Clemesí Human Settlement for the improvement of their homes and self-construction. In Ica, 750 kg of wood was donated to the San Fernando National Reserve, which used it to make informative signs in the reserve.

"With these initiatives we seek to promote the circular economy through the reuse of unused materials. By recovering materials instead of discarding them, we reduce the environmental impact and give them a second life”.” said Emma Rojas, head of Sustainability and Circular Economy Initiatives at Enel.

In addition, 49 solar panels have been reused and installed to provide renewable electricity to homes, PRONOEIs and community centers in Nasca and Moquegua, contributing to their social development.

Finally, in Piura, Enel, together with the Municipality of Talara and in alliance with the NGO Recicla Latam, implements the Recicla Power project through which it provides support to the «Nuevo Amanecer» association of recyclers in the town of Piedritas, in order to ensure the supply of recycled materials that they receive monthly and strengthen their commercial capacities. Thanks to the project, in 2022 the collection capacity was increased from 3.2 tons of usable material collected monthly to 8.6 tons by December 2022.

In this way, Enel, in line with its sustainability model, places the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at the center of its activities, complying with SDG 8 economic growth and SDG 12 responsible production and consumption.
