Final concession for Peruvian wind power plant awarded

The Ministry of Energy and Mines (Minem) granted Enel Green Power Peru the definitive concession to develop the Wayra Extension Wind Power Plant project in the Ica region, an infrastructure that will use the power of the wind to obtain electricity through the use of non-conventional renewable resources.

According to Ministerial Resolution No. 370-2020-MINEM/DM , the future electrical facility will have an installed capacity of 108 MW and will be located in the district of Marcona, province of Nasca, This is an expansion of the existing wind power plant in the area, called Wayra I, with a generation capacity of 132.3 MW.

The estimated investment for the construction of this project amounts to US $$ 148.4 million, and the project is scheduled to begin construction on December 14, 2021, while the Commercial Start-up will be no later than December 30, 2022.

The provision authorizes the Director General of Electricity to act on behalf of the Minem and sign the Concession Contract No. 557-2020, which consists of 19 clauses and 4 annexes, as well as the corresponding Public Deed.

This project was approved by the National Environmental Certification Service for Sustainable Investments (SENACE), which by means of Directorial Resolution No. 008-2020-SENACE-PE/DEAR, dated January 15, 2020, approved the modification of the Detailed Environmental Impact Study of the Wayra I Wind Power Plant.

After this, the company operating the project requested from the Minem, as of May 15, 2020, the definitive concession to develop the activity of electricity generation with renewable energy resources.

The granting of the definitive concession has the favorable opinion of the General Directorate of Electricity and the General Office of Legal Counsel of the Minem, which thus consolidates its policy of promoting investments in renewable energies, which contribute to achieving the decarbonization of the country's energy matrix.
