Lima, April 23, 2019 - In a milestone for the entire region and the industry, Coca-Cola Peru and Arca Continental Lindley, who make up the Coca-Cola System, present packaging innovation with the San Luis bottle made 100% from recycled bottles, seeking to reduce the environmental impact of plastic use.
The design of this packaging made from 100% of recycled bottles is part of the Coca-Cola System's journey to promote the circular economy, giving value to plastic bottles so that they become new bottles, rather than waste. “This launch is part of ‘A World Without Waste,’ The Coca-Cola Company's global initiative that aims to help collect and recycle the equivalent of 100% of packaging by 2030 and manufacture bottles with higher recycled content. At the same time, it is a way to consolidate the principles of reduce, reuse and recycle in the communities where we operate,” highlights Thiago Coelho, the recently appointed General Manager of The Coca-Cola Company in Peru.
Likewise, with this action, Coca-Cola Peru and Arca Continental Lindley voluntarily exceed the goal of incorporating recycled plastic in the manufacture of new packaging, as established in the Clean Production Agreement signed last year with the Ministries of the Environment and Production.
“With the launch of this new container made 100% from recycled bottles, we reaffirm our commitment to investing in new technologies that allow us to continue innovating and increasing the use of recycled material. In addition, with the same objective of promoting environmental care, we continue to bet on the development of returnability in the country.”
added Juan Felix Alba, General Manager of Arca Continental Lindley.
The recycling of food grade PET plastic goes through a sophisticated process before the creation of new bottles. The transformation involves washing, grinding, melting and fusing stages to generate a new bottle, today in charge of San Miguel Industrias.
This new bottle is fully recycled and recyclable and, at the end of its life cycle, it becomes another bottle. Through the packaging of the Coca-Cola Peru System portfolio, we seek to make a positive difference and generate a dialogue around recycling in Peru, with projects that encourage the reuse of PET plastic bottles.
In the last two years alone, the Coca-Cola Company has managed to reduce more than 800 tons of plastic used in the production of packaging in South America. Currently, 100% of the Company's PET, glass and Tetra Pak packaging is recyclable.
The San Luis bottle made from 100% recycled PET bottles can be found in its 625 ml presentation and is distinguished by the light bluish color of the bottle, which is already available in warehouses and supermarkets and will gradually reach the entire country and the rest of the portfolio.
