Is your company ready to take its climate action to the next level?

By: Sarah Franciscolo - Manager of nexos+1

Those who follow the UN climate negotiation processes know that 2023 is a key year, as countries have reported their progress on emissions reductions - in a process called Global Stocktaking (Global Stocktake in English). For its part, the private sector is also taking steps to manage its climate impact. According to our Latin America Business Climate Action Report 2022, 87% of the companies surveyed were taking some climate action and 69% were measuring their greenhouse gas emissions. But how can you know if your company's climate action is up to the climate context we are living in??

In response to this question, nexos+1 and Libélula present the Climate Maturity Self-diagnosis, a free online tool to measure your organization's climate maturity and provide guidance on the next steps for a more comprehensive and ambitious climate management. Climate maturity is measured through a 36-question questionnaire based on six key dimensions, four of which are aligned to the Race to Zero criteria (the UN's global campaign).

Conceived as a management tool for companies, the Climate Maturity Self-diagnostic provides immediate results with recommendations of concrete steps to raise the organization's climate maturity and move it towards carbon neutrality. The process takes 15-25 minutes and allows you to know where your organization stands in terms of climate management, from its commitments and strategies, its progress in planning and implementing initiatives that reduce greenhouse gas emissions, its internal governance to support climate initiatives and its transparency in communicating its efforts.

“Working together with nexos+1 with the climate maturity tool allowed us to stop talking about ideal dates and start talking about those milestones that are relevant and material. Milestones that we will have to achieve in order for each of the [group] companies to reach their goals,» commented Cecilia Zevallos, Corporate Manager of Institutional Affairs and Sustainability, on the use of the Self-diagnosis with the companies of the Breca Business Group.

Business associations and networks can also benefit from this tool to measure progress and gaps in their member companies to better support them in their joint work.
