Cementos Pacasmayo, a leading company in construction solutions in the north of the country, is celebrating 65 years of experience with Peruvians. As part of its commitment to make Peru more sustainable, for several years it has been implementing a business model that places its stakeholders at the center of its strategy, a key approach to fulfill its purpose of “Building together the future we dream of”.
The company currently has more than 1,700 employees operating mainly in the north of the country, with the objective of continuing to be regional leaders in the sector to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. Thus, within the framework of its new anniversary, it announced the incorporation of two new managers: the Sustainability Management and the Climate Change Management. With this, in addition to strengthening its leadership position, they seek to be a benchmark in sustainability.
"65 years is an important date to remember all that we have achieved as a team. Each of the people who are part of the Pacasmayo family contribute in different ways and understand the value we give to sustainability in a transversal way to the business. We contribute, through our efforts, to be a better company every day, better people and a human group that truly transcends. This brings us closer and closer to continue advancing in Peru's agenda, and that is the most important thing.”commented Humberto Nadal, CEO of Pacasmayo.
As part of its commitment to the environment, the company has been developing more eco-efficient solutions since 1996. Among these solutions are its added cements, whose clinker factor has been reduced by 22% to date, representing 82% of its sales.
The company continues to ratify its commitment to carbon neutrality by aligning its initiatives with the Peru 2030 Cement Industry Roadmap prepared jointly by the Inter-American Cement Federation (FICEM) and the Peruvian Cement Producers Association (ASOCEM).
For example, as part of its efforts, in May of this year, it incorporated into its portfolio the EcoSaco, a disintegrable packaging that becomes part of the concrete mix without generating waste, contributing to the environment and the health of users.
This type of actions during its trajectory has allowed it to obtain recognition, such as being included for more than three consecutive years in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) MILA and entering for the second consecutive time in the “The Sustainability Yearbook 2022” of S&P Global.
Business development
In 2022, the cement company celebrated its 10th anniversary on the New York Stock Exchange, being the first cement company in Peru to be listed on that market in 2012. With this, Pacasmayo internally promotes the continuous improvement of its transparency and governance standards.
On the other hand, at the end of 2021, the company started the optimization of kiln 4 of the Pacasmayo plant, which will allow the production of approximately 600 thousand additional MT of clinker to meet market demand.
"This new kiln is expected to be operational by the second half of 2023. The project aims to increase the production capacity of clinker, one of the main components for the production of cement; it will also provide improvements in thermal and electrical efficiency in the operation, which will contribute to the reduction of CO2 emissions in the company”.”, said Nadal.
Digital transformation
In Pacasmayo, innovation and digital transformation have played a leading role in the professionalization of the sector, with solutions such as MundoXperto. This digital ecosystem has tools such as ConstruyeXperto, the largest platform of master builders in Peru, and FerreXperto, which seeks to provide hardware stores with different options to strengthen their businesses. On the other hand, the company has Pacas Pro, an application that allows them to be connected with customers during the management of the work.
With all these initiatives, the company consolidates its vision in line with sustainability integrated to the development of the business, which allows the cement company to remain at the forefront of the challenges, standards and sustainability indicators in the industry to establish timely action plans and continue working for the transformation of the industry.
