Empresa agrícola de Piura recibe préstamo verde para reducir el consumo de agua, agroquímicos y fertilizantes

The agricultural sector has been key to the country's economic development, representing 5.6% of GDP and stands out for its sustained growth in exports, with grapes being one of the main products that has positioned Peru as a world leader in exports of this product.

In this context, Pura Fruit Company S.A., one of the main exporters of seedless table grapes in Peru, received from Scotiabank Peru a loan in the amount of US$8.4 million, which includes a green loan component of US$4.9 million, aimed at improving efficiency in the use of agricultural resources.

The company, with more than 1,000 hectares in production in Piura, will use the funds to cover investments implemented between 2022 and 2023 for the installation of crop covers and the interconnection of water reservoirs. These initiatives are aimed at optimizing the use of resources and grape production, as well as mitigating their environmental impact.

According to Pura Fruit Company S.A., the investments financed have contributed to the advancement of the sustainability of its operations, as evidenced by the following:

The reduction of water consumption by 25%, thanks to the optimization of irrigation systems.
27% reduction in agrochemical use.
Decrease in fertilizer use by 22%, contributing to the improvement of soil quality.

Implementation of green financing

The granting of this loan is part of a larger effort by Scotiabank Peru to incorporate sustainability criteria into its financing portfolio as part of its commitment to support our Peruvian clients in implementing their own sustainability objectives.

Británico impulsa la sostenibilidad con su primer mural ecológico en San Juan de Lurigancho

British continues to promote sustainable initiatives that generate a positive impact on the community. As part of its volunteer program, it carried out its first ecological mural at the San Juan de Lurigancho headquarters, using ecological paints with low levels of toxic compounds, which contributes to improving air quality and reducing environmental impact.

This project was made possible thanks to the participation of 16 volunteers, who, over the course of a four-hour day, brought to life a design inspired by British culture and respect for the environment. Beyond beautifying the space, this initiative reinforces the institution's commitment to sustainability and promotes the use of responsible materials.

Alicorp ingresa a lista global de empresas destacadas en sostenibilidad

AlicorpAlicorp, a leading company in the mass consumption sector, has been included for the first time in the S&P Global Sustainability Yearbook, a recognition that highlights companies with outstanding performance in sustainability worldwide. With this achievement, Alicorp becomes the only company in the food sector to represent Peru in this important list.

Among the aspects highlighted in Alicorp's evaluation are the creation of shared value with its clients, the progress in the development of its climate action strategy, as well as the company's risk management, which includes the sustainable management of suppliers and risks related to climate change.

These indicators are materialized through programs such as Aliados de tu desarrollo, which generate shared value with the company's customers by providing ongoing training and business solutions to entrepreneurs in the gastronomy, bakery and winery sectors. In environmental matters, the company has been making progress in its commitment to reduce its carbon footprint and water footprint by 20% by 2030. In addition to these actions, the company has a high standard of risk management, as well as programs to evaluate and develop its suppliers, such as the sustainable palm program, which seeks to accompany palm grower suppliers on their path to sustainability.

During the last year, S&P Global evaluated more than 8,000 companies worldwide and selected the best performers in each industry. The other Peruvian companies recognized were: Corporación Aceros Arequipa, Ferreycorp, Banco BBVA Perú, Cementos Pacasmayo, InRetail Perú, Intercorp Financial Services and Minsur.

In the food sector, around 400 companies were evaluated globally, and Alicorp stood out by being positioned in the top 20 companies with the best sustainability indicators. The company has also achieved a 120% improvement in the overall indicator over the last 4 years.

Minsur ha sido Reconocida por Tercer Año Consecutivo en el Anuario de Sostenibilidad de S&P Global

Minsur has once again been highlighted as one of the leading companies in sustainability by being included, for the third consecutive year, in S&P Global's Sustainability Yearbook 2025. This recognition is due to its solid performance in the comprehensive sustainability assessment conducted by the rating agency.

In addition, the company is positioned as the only Peruvian mining company to be part of this select list. Ferreycorp dictó su primer Diplomado de Proveedores Sostenibles

Ferreycorp reaffirmed its commitment to sustainability through the Sustainable Suppliers Diploma, an initiative developed in partnership with the Lima Chamber of Commerce as part of the Eleva program, which aims to promote the growth of its suppliers and encourage responsible business practices.

In its first edition, the course was attended by 100 suppliers, who addressed key sustainability challenges (ESG). Through this training process, the construction of relationships aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) was promoted, contributing to a more responsible business model.

The program included several essential topics:

Environment: Tools to address climate change, manage natural resources and monitor environmental risks and opportunities.
Social: Promoting health, wellness, inclusion, diversity and the development of an equitable organizational culture.
Governance: Strategies to strengthen risk monitoring, supply chain management and the implementation of sustainable business practices.

Cementos Pacasmayo se convierte en la primera empresa en el Perú en obtener una Declaración Ambiental de Producto del Programa GlobalEPD en cementos verificado por AENOR

The products and plants that obtained the WTP were:

Fortimax (Pacasmayo plant, Piura), Extraforte and Type I (Pacasmayo plant, Piura, and Rioja).

In order to reaffirm its commitment to the environment, Cementos Pacasmayo has obtained the Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) from the GlobalEPD program for three of its cements. This recognition was granted by the Spanish Association for Standardization and Certification (AENOR) and aims not only to provide verifiable information on the environmental impact of products, but also reinforces the purpose of promoting responsible practices in the construction sector, facilitating comparison based on environmental criteria and promoting transparency in each project.

"We are proud to become the first company in Peru to obtain a PDO for our cements. This milestone represents a significant step toward the legacy we seek to build as a company for the industry and the country. At the same time, it reinforces our commitment to continue promoting sustainable and transparent practices that generate value for our customers, the market, and future generations, commented Humberto Nadal, CEO of Cementos Pacasmayo at the certification ceremony in which Diego Herranz, AENOR's Regional Director for Latin America, participated.

The EPD is a standardized document that provides quantitative and verifiable information on the environmental impact of a product throughout its life cycle. This recognition, based on international standards such as ISO 14025, was possible thanks to a comprehensive life-cycle assessment for the following Cementos Pacasmayo products and plants: Fortimax (Piura and Pacasmayo plants), Extraforte and Tipo I (Piura, Pacasmayo and Rioja plants). The analysis was conducted from "cradle to grave", i.e., direct and indirect impacts were quantified from the extraction of raw materials, processing, packaging, transportation to customers, use and final disposal.

The preliminary analysis prepared by ECOAMET resulted in the calculation of the Product Carbon Footprint as well as other environmental indicators of our products. Subsequently, AENOR verified and endorsed the results presented. This recognition reflects the cement company's effort and commitment to the reduction of CO₂ emissions and the continuous improvement of its processes. Obtaining the EPD not only evidences its environmental responsibility, but also adds value to its customers, who have additional assurance regarding the quality and sustainability of the products. It is worth mentioning that these efforts are aligned with the Sustainable Construction Technical Code, which establishes technical requirements for buildings and facilities to comply with basic sustainability conditions, promoting the use of ecomaterials, products that have the accreditation of their manufacturer.

"Transparency, sustainability and competitiveness are the criteria that summarize what an EPD represents for the companies that manage to obtain it. As AENOR, we will continue to rigorously analyze companies whose purpose is to build a Peru that is more responsible and committed to caring for the environment."said Diego Herranz, AENOR's Latam Regional Director.

Building a more sustainable country

Cementos Pacasmayo's vision is aligned with the highest expectations of the sector to build a better country. In this context, obtaining a WTP contributes to this objective, promoting the use of Eco-Efficient solutions that are recognized by sustainable construction certifications. For example, LEED certification considers the use of products with verified EPDs in the categories of "Materials and Resources" and "Building Product Disclosure and Optimization".

Similarly, BREEAM certification highlights the value of using EPD products in its sustainability assessments. On the other hand, the My Sustainable Home Bonus also awards points to buildings that declare at least two eco-structural materials that comply with EPDs. These initiatives reflect how Cementos Pacasmayo actively contributes to transforming the industry towards a more responsible and sustainable future.

LIMA EXPRESA logra avances tangibles en su lucha contra el cambio climático

For that reason, its commitment to positive mobility incorporates all dimensions of sustainability. As part of its environmental commitment, LIMA EXPRESSES implemented climate actions aligned with the VINCI Highways global roadmap to 2030, which has the following objectives reduce GHG emissions by 51% compared to 2018 levels, decrease water consumption by 50% and achieve total elimination of own waste to landfill. In addition, the company has incorporated the risks associated with climate change as part of its business strategy to ensure a resilient infrastructure.

With a focus on energy efficiency, LIMA EXPRESA has achieved to date reduce emissions of GHG (scopes 1 and 2) in more than 40% since 2018. This was achieved through the electrification of the vehicle fleet, the implementation of its first solar photovoltaic system, which supplies energy to one of its toll plazas, and the implementation of LED lights. The company plans to continue with the electrification of its vehicle fleet and expand the installation of solar panels in 2023.

Since 2020, the company has been offsetting its residual emissions by means of the purchase of carbon credits for the conservation and preservation of national parks in Peru, contributing to the global goal of neutrality. She also emphasized that the company prioritizes the purchase of carbon credits from REDD+ forestry projects certified by Verra. These initiatives include the substitution of plant species with high water consumption for those that require less water, the installation of devices to control water consumption in their facilities, and the implementation of xerophilic gardens. Thanks to these actions, they have managed to reduce their water consumption, to date, by 50%. In terms of waste management, LIMA EXPRESSES expanded its recycling and recovery program in collaboration with socio-environmental organizations. It now includes the recovery of materials such as uniforms and advertising banners, electrical and electronic equipment, metals and railings, as well as the proper management of organic waste. These measures seek to promoting circularity of these materials and reduce the environmental impact of the waste generated. [Opinión] Recuperación verde para generar inversión sostenible

Two years have passed since the COVID-19 pandemic left various social and economic devastations in Peru and the world. Against this backdrop, a green economic recovery is very beneficial for Peruvian society because it creates new job opportunities and promotes businesses that allow greater profitability, while ensuring environmental care. Green economic recovery requires a strong involvement of the private sector because it promotes innovation and generates investment.

We also know that the global commitment of the private sector contributes to reducing 60% of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions to limit the increase in global temperature, according to the We Mean Business Coalition ReportThe company's contribution to achieving the decarbonization of economies by 2050, a key goal of the Paris Agreement, will be significant.

The DecarBOOST Project, developed by Libélula in a context of post-covid recovery, promoted the participation of the private sector in the decarbonization of the Peruvian economy, through a portfolio of investment opportunities of approximately US$178.76 million. Among the proposals are decentralized coworking spaces for the permanence of hybrid work that reduces the amount of fuel used in transportation and increases worker satisfaction. This model can generate a profitability of 60% in medium-sized spaces and reduce GHGs by up to 170.48 tCO2eq, saving up to 562 thousand soles annually.

Another proposal is the implementation of an accelerator of quality carbon credits that would promote reforestation and renewable energies; generating employment for communities that conserve ecosystems and generating an annual return of up to 44% and a reduction of up to 133,387 tCO2eq of GHGs.

By the same token, the promotion of renewable energies dynamizes the economy and diversifies the electricity matrix by reducing dependence on fossil fuels, which will face increasing restrictions. With the use of industrial solar panels, large companies can begin their energy and sustainable transition.

The evidence shows that the private sector can make a significant difference in restoring the economy. To develop actions from green recovery is to think about profitability and, above all, the possibility of creating an inclusive society that integrates sustainability and develops in a new global context.
